It's world cancer day today. If you've been following me, or have been in any of my webinars you know that I lost my mom in early 2022 to cancer. I totally believe that nobody should fight this alone. It was a painful journey for her and all of us close to her.
I can't be grateful enough that I was able to care for her and be there for her during the most difficult time of her life and at the same time I can't be grateful enough for those of my friends and family and the medical team who were there for me to give me strength when I needed it most. She didn't fight alone, we weren't alone. Although she was not among the survivors, she was hopeful and courageous until the end, and she wasn't alone.
If you know someone dealing with this disease, don't shy away from picking up the phone and checking on them. Be as natural as you can possibly be, don't ask too many questions about their situation, but be there if they want to talk about it.
It's hard to know how different people deal with life-threatening diseases, some want to get it out of their chest, and some like to keep it to themselves and act natural when with friends. Respect that, but be there for them, you never know when they need you to pick them up when they fall and have their back when they can't keep it together anymore.

I keep finding so many similarities between different world events and my culture. No wonder Groundhog Day and Sadeh celebrations in Iran share several similarities. Both events are centred around the prediction of weather and are tied to the changing seasons. Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2nd and is based on the idea that if the groundhog sees its shadow, winter will continue for six more weeks. Sadeh, celebrated in Iran on January 31st, is a festival of light that marks the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Both events are opportunities for communities to come together and celebrate, often with food, music, and festivities. Furthermore, both Groundhog Day and Sadeh celebrations hold a deeper cultural significance, serving as a reminder of the changing seasons and the cycle of life.
